It’s the most wonderful time of the year… time for the Geminids meteor shower, of course! 🌠 The Geminids meteor shower is unique in its origin because, typically, meteor showers derive from comets. However, the Geminids are caused by debris from an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1983. This annual meteor shower favours the northern hemisphere and will peak overnight tonight into the early hours of December 14 at 2:00 am ET. As the new moon has just begun, the sky will be dark and favourable to catch these bright, celestial streaks in the sky. When you escape the city lights and watch from a dark location, this meteor shower tends to flash quite bright and quickly. Happy viewing! Photo: NASA
